VERY RARE NEW ENGLAND GLASS PLATED AMBERINA ART GLASS TUMBLER, c. 1886 MINT
Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a very rare antique New England Plated Amberina Art Glass lemonade or juice tumbler, c. This fabulous tumbler has vivid fuschia top shading to amber with vertical ribbing on exterior and creamy bluish white cased interior. A small quantity of gold was added to the batch of transparent amber glass to achieve the coloration desired, then the top portion of the glass was cooled and reheated to achieve the Amberina effect. This stunning tumbler is pictured on page 45 of the book "The Collector's Encyclopedia of American Art Glass", Second Edition, by John A. Plated Amberina glass was patented by Joseph Locke in 1886. Locke ranks as one of the greatest and most innovative contributors to the American Art Glass field. Plated Amberina is one of the most desirable additions to any American Art Glass Collection.
The piece is in mint condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The depth of color is very rich making this an extremely choice item. Measures 4" high and 2 1/2" in diameter.
